FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONFLUENT TECHNOLOGIES RELEASES FLUITION1.0

-- Macworld Expo 2000 is a Huge Success for Fluition --

TORONTO, ON - January 12, 2000 - Confluent Technologies Inc. brings Fluition 1.0 to market. Fluition is a professional-level software program and the only one of its kind available for the Macintosh platform touted by Confluent Technologies as the multimedia creation tool for the World Wide Web of the future.

Through Fluition and the power of SMIL, Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (pronounced "SMILE"), the ability to create and broadcast interactive multimedia presentations is simplified and becomes accessible to anyone with a computer and an Internet connection.

Confluent Technologies debuted Fluition 1.0 in San Francisco at Macworld Expo 2000 and the response was tremendous. "The networking and promotional opportunities at a venue that size were phenomenal and the interest shown by companies such as RealNetworks and Apple has vaulted Confluent Technologies onto the playing field," said Steven Dryall, President of Confluent Technologies Inc.

Apple Computer Inc. just announced SMIL compatibility in conjunction with the release of QuickTime 4.1. "QuickTime 4.1 will feature enhanced functionality, including seamless ad insertion; improved firewall navigation; AppleScript support for easy digital media creation and streaming; and support of synchronized multimedia integrated language (SMIL), the emerging standard for interactive media creation." (for more information visit www.apple.com). Apple's acceptance of SMIL opens up a much larger user base for Fluition. Fluition has been designed for maximum compatibility with RealNetworks, Inc.'s RealPlayer G2, one of the most downloaded plug-ins available on the Internet. RealPlayer G2 is perfectly compatible with SMIL and this compatibility, along with QuickTime 4.1's compatibility, ensures the widest possible installed viewer base for presentations created with Fluition.

"SMIL was approved by the World Wide Web Consortium in 1998 as the programming language for the media rich World Wide Web of today and tomorrow – and we have brought easy SMIL creation to people's desktops." adds Dryall.

Dryall has been working closely with Real Software, Inc. in Austin Texas travelling to Austin in anticipation of Real Software's Cross Compiler feature to their programming software REALBasic 2.0. Fluition was created with REALBasic and with the new Cross Compiler feature Confluent Technologies will be able to produce a Windows version of Fluition for Windows 95/98/NT.

Fluition 1.0 has been released and is available at www.confluenttechnologies.com. Confluent Technologies will have Fluition 1.0 on shelves in Toronto soon and anticipate closing a deal for North American and International distribution. Currently, Fluition 1.5 is in the final stages of development and is scheduled for release in March, 2000. Fluition 1.5 will showcase improved functionality and added features to improve on Fluition 1.0, and most importantly a Windows version to ensure the widest possible market exposure for Fluition.

Confluent Technologies Inc., a privately held Toronto-based start-up software company, plans to develop a full suite of streaming multimedia tools for Fluition. They intend to continue to work with RealNetworks Inc. and Real Software, Inc. in order to promote and evolve the Fluition Suite in to the most sophisticated multimedia delivery tool on the market.
