FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FLUITION BETA DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE -- Interactive Multimedia Web Design Now Only a Click Away -- TORONTO, ON - November 20, 1999 - Confluent Technologies Incorporated introduces Fluition, the multimedia creation tool for the World Wide Web of the future. Fluition is a professional-level software program and the only one of its kind available for the Macintosh platform. Through Fluition and the power of SMIL, Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language, the ability to create interactive multimedia is simplified and becomes accessible to anyone with a computer and an Internet connection. Users simply choose areas by drawing different regions for text, photos and video, while Fluition? coordinates the assembly and coding of the different components. "Fluition promises to do for Web design what desktop publishing programs did for graphic design by providing consumers with the easy assembly of SMIL presentations," says Steven Dryall, President, Confluent Technologies Inc. "HTML was the delivery language for the text based World Wide Web but was very limited in the speed and quality of output. SMIL was approved in by the World Wide Web Consortium 1998 as the programming language for the media rich World Wide Web of today and tomorrow and we have brought that capability to people's desktops." Fluition has been designed for maximum compatibility with RealNetworks Inc.'s RealPlayer, one of the most downloaded plug-ins available on the Internet. RealPlayer G2 is compatible with SMIL and this compatibility ensures the widest installed viewer base for presentations created with Fluition. In preparation for the launch and promotion of Fluition for the Macintosh platform, Confluent Technologies Inc. has released a downloadable version of Fluition available at their web site, www.confluenttechnologies.com and major software repositories on the Internet. The full Fluition 1.0 package will be available December 20, 1999 with a Windows version soon to follow. While broadband media delivery and Internet connection speeds continue to evolve, Confluent Technologies Inc. will be positioned in perfect synchronisation with the demand for streaming multimedia tools. "The evolution of multimedia on the Internet is finally approaching the progression of multimedia on the desktop and Fluition puts Confluent Technologies Inc. at the forefront of this era of change," adds Dryall. Confluent Technologies Inc., a privately held Toronto-based start-up software company, envisions the potential audience for streaming presentations as immense, and continuing to grow at an exponential rate. The advancement of streaming media technologies and the improvement of data connection speeds continue to evolve the Internet in to the most sophisticated multimedia delivery platform in history.
